Tom Parchman
Dr. Thomas Parchman, clarinetist, came to Maine through a joint search conducted by the University of Southern Maine and the Portland Symphony Orchestra. He is a Professor at USM and has served as Principal Clarinetist of the Portland Symphony since his arrival. Dr. Parchman earned a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California, a Master of Music from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Performance from Southern Methodist University. His principal teachers include Clark Brody and Larry Combs of the Chicago Symphony, Robert Marcellus of the Cleveland Orchestra, and Mitchell Lurie, noted Chicago Symphony clarinetist and soloist. He regularly performs with the Portland Symphony and the Rhode Island Philharmonic and presents recitals throughout New England.
